Nativity Scenes & Sets
Nativity scenes or sets are depictions of the birth or birthplace of Jesus. Christian nativity scenes, in two dimensions (drawings, paintings, icons, etc.) or three (sculpture or other three-dimensional crafts), usually show Jesus in a manger, Joseph and Mary in a barn (or cave) intended to accommodate farm animals. A donkey and an ox accompany them. The scene sometimes includes the Magi or Three Wise Men (with or without a camel), shepherds and sheep, angels, and the Star of Bethlehem. A variety of makers provide us with this lovely Christmas "Village," with Fontanini of Italy probably the most familiar with their high-quality, exquisite figures in sets of different sizes. However, Demdaco/Willow Tree, Lenox, Precious Moments, Department 56 (The Little Town of Bethlehem, retired but still popular), Enesco, Hummel, Goebel, and others also make these lovely sets as you will see here.
